The illuminating pieces of paper…..

I believe in writing letters. In fact, I enjoy writing letters and therefore I make sure that instead of sending an email to the people I cherish, I send a handwritten letter. I know not many reading this would agree. And that is absolutely fine. But I would still ask you to try it once. I know in this modern, digital era, it is very important to keep yourselves abreast with new technologies. But I don’t understand why did people ever stop writing letters? Writing letters is magical. They are filled with innocence. They are practically made of words……..with a lot of emotions. You actually pour your heart out while doing so. While writing a letter you can only say the truth; I suppose. I, in particular have written a lot of letters- some to family, some to friends (that I never sent), some to my role models and some to myself.

I remember writing down a letter to a gentle man, who is now my role model. While writing down to him, I didn’t expect he would write me back because of his busy schedule you know. But to my surprise he did write back and that too in writing. He sent me a handwritten letter wishing me luck for my future. The day I received it I was on cloud nine. I was so happy. I had never received a handwritten letter earlier. I would say- “The joy of receiving a letter back should be compared to none”.

I believe emails are meant for formal messages and letters are meant for informal messages. Letters can be formal too.

Sharing my thoughts with people in person has always been a trouble. And letters have been of great help in just every situation- when I wanted to apologize, when I wanted to thank, when I wanted to impress and just every imaginable situation.

Letters have the power to change innumerable things and even people. Trust me, I wouldn’t have known it if it hadn’t happened to me. I once received a recommendation letter from my Marathi teacher. I have that letter even today (because it was in Marathi, I couldn’t send it further). I read that letter whenever I feel low because it has truths that nobody would have ever noticed. You see, that letter helps me in moving on no matter what, it reminds me of myself, my purpose and my potential.

I think and also believe that writing down a letter for someone can also help you in making them realize how important they are to you. So next time you wanna express your feelings to somebody and make them feel special, write down a letter!
